This activity from Mrs. Bell at A Place Called Kindergarten imparts a fantastic message and is a great way to start the school year. Based on Allia Zobel Nolan’s book, What I Like About Me, where characters describe what makes them different and why they like the particular trait/characteristic about themselves, students are reminded that they’re all special and unique.
After reading the book as a class, Mrs. Bell invites her students to take a ‘look’ in the mirror and determine what they like best about themselves – a great exercise for building character and self-esteem! With this in mind, she then has them create a mirror craft where they illustrate the trait/characteristic, and displays the finished projects on a bulletin board to remind her students that they’re all a special part of the class.
